Help picking a girl's name
I need help, please. I've just unexpectedly been granted the honor of naming my brand new niece. They have a fondness for unusual names and I personally like names with meaning. Suggestions please!

An example from among your names that I think they would like is, Zara (of Arabic origin, meaning radiance). A couple of useful resources I've found so far are:

Wow! No clue. I always favored classic names--my cat was named Emily (DECADES before it was such a popular little-girl's name...) ;-)

Good luck! Let us know what you choose!

I'll likely give them a selection. I'm not quite sure yet.

One of my coworkers

is named Zhalih Lena (lastname). Her family and faith is Bahai, and the first name comes from an Iranian tradition. It's pronounced Zha(like Zsa Zsa Gabor once)-Lay. Her nickname is Zee because some people just can't figure it out.

mizzlaurajean is partial to Acacia...

I note, with some bemusement, that one of our fannish friends helped write a book of baby names.

Acacia.....

Ya but I love how uncommon it is so don't encourage it's spread!

Thanks for the suggestion.

Also, I have a vuage memory, but can't remember; who wrote the book.

I have often wished for the formal position of town baby namer.

Give me more info about these people and I will generate names.

Any old family names that could be worked with? Or cultural backgrounds to draw from?

Family on both sides is such that family names are pretty much out. The parents like unusual names, as in unique. For me, I like names that mean something worthwhile, preferably something for the girl to aspire to as she becomes a woman.
