Want a Hobbit-Style Second Breakfast? Go to Denny’s!
Denny's have cut a deal with Peter Jackson to serve Middle Earth foods. So, do you think Tolkien would be turning in his grave... and maybe gagging too, or would he see the funny side and go get himself a plate of Radagast's Red Velvet Pancake Puppies with Peter Jackson?

I doubt Prof. Tolkien would be amused. And as best as I can tell, there isn't a single item on the menu that involves fried mushrooms, so how Hobbity can it really be?

Hobbits seem to be all about the hand made crafts sort of thing, so Denny's seems almost the exact opposite of the sort of food they would eat. Certainly deep fried like that, but more... like the local hippy food place.

Denny's are limited by the kinds of food they serve. The hobbit hole idea at least introduces something more familiar to the English, but yeah, it all seems to be lacking authenticity and creativity, for the most part. Where's the Lembas bread or Cram? Where's the honey-cake waffles? Where's the Ent draught root beer? "Where's the "What's taters, precious" tater tots? I understand them leaving out the fringe foods like traveller's rabbit stew and the less appetizing ones, like raw and wriggling fish... but still, there was much to chose from... and they didn't.

Oh, indeed, Denny's is limited by the food they serve. I just cannot for the life of me imagine why they thought it would be a good tie in for them. What fan, even a fan who has only seen the movie, would rush out to Denny's for the same cheap Denny's breakfast under a new name? That is a breakfast of disappointment.

On the movie selling side I cannot fault them for looking for every dollar under every rock, integrity be dammed! That is the nature of their business. I would have been more surprised had they turned down such deals or only accepting ones that seemed thematically appropriate.

Agreed. There is so much on the web that they could have plundered for ideas. Here's a fannish example: A Shire-Style Vegetable Stew. There's also at least one entire collection of Middle-earth Recipes out there.

I can't believe I'd never thought of making french toast with seed cake. / Creeps away in shame /

I am not even sure what seed cake is. Though it sounds nice. Probably something I would like given that I like real pudding. Speaking of which it is now cold out and I need suet.

It does seem like it might be tasty.
